Test Your Antivirus
Before I choose an antivirus software I make sure that it can detect a certain file. This vile mimics a virus but it is completely harmless to your system. The use of this file is to test your antivirus software. If it isnt recognized by your AV suite, then I suggest you get a new one. Visit Eicar.org to test your antivirus software with a dummy malware file. If you want you can create this maleware file yourself. Open up notepad and paste this string: X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* Then save it. If you did it correctly then your AV will detect it as a virus.
